Unity Spark Project

Hello
Neighbor.

A simple act. A powerful beginning.

We don't heal communities by arguing.
We heal them by beginning.
Division is the poison.
Connection is the cure.
Be the antidote. Start with hello.

A Connected

Unity Spark Project is a community-driven initiative designed to bring people together across differences through storytelling, deep listening, and shared experiences.

This is how we rebuild trust.
This is how we create belonging.
This is how communities begin again—together.

👂
Listen
Create intentional space to hear lived experiences across cultures, generations, and neighborhoods.
📖
Share
Exchange stories that reveal our shared humanity and the beauty of our differences.
🔗
Connect
Build lasting relationships that become the foundation of a stronger, more caring community.

Connection Happens In Stages

Unity Spark Project unfolds in four stages — each one building on the last, from seeing our neighbors to truly celebrating who we are together.

01
SEE
Hello Neighbor
Neighbor portraits displayed throughout the community. Trained interviewers and photographers capture the faces and stories of Puyallup residents — sharing them publicly so we can see and appreciate who lives here.
02
HEAR
Community Conversations
Farmer's Market pop-ups and outdoor gatherings, through October. Informal, open spaces where neighbors slow down, share a story, and find common ground with the person right next to them.
03
KNOW
Cultural Exchange Experiences
Facilitated gatherings that go deeper. Small groups come together across cultures and neighborhoods for storytelling, deep listening, and dialogue. This is where empathy takes root.
04
CELEBRATE
Multicultural Festival
A citywide Folklorama-inspired celebration — coming in a future year. Food, art, music, storytelling, and shared joy. Built on everything this pilot teaches us, designed to be annual and community-owned.

This Is Not Just
a Program.

We are living in a time of deep division, disconnection, and isolation. But what if the solution isn't louder debate — it's deeper connection?

Stronger communities don't happen by accident. They are built through intentional relationships, shared understanding, and collective care.

It's a new model for how we live together.

Unity Spark Project — Hello Puyallup Initiative Brief

A Living Model for
Civic Belonging

Hello Puyallup is a mayor-led pilot that brings this vision to life — inviting neighbors to connect, listen, and build community together. Through storytelling, cultural exchange, and shared experiences, this initiative transforms neighborliness into a visible and powerful civic value.

Led by Unity Spark in partnership with the City of Puyallup, this pilot is intentionally designed from the outset to become a replicable national model for civic neighborliness.

Ribbons, Wishes, and the Next Generation

A mother and her daughter tied a ribbon to the community installation — a small act that carried everything Hello Puyallup is about. Connection doesn't require a speech. Sometimes it just needs a ribbon and someone to share it with.

What Starts with
Hello Grows
Into Something Big.

What starts with a simple "hello" grows into something much bigger — stronger relationships, healthier communities, and a shared vision for the future.

We are building something that can live in cities everywhere. And it starts right here.

1
A simple hello
One neighbor reaches out. One connection begins. One moment of courage changes everything.
2
A community listens
Stories are shared. Differences are honored. Trust begins to replace assumption.
3
A city transforms
Relationships become civic infrastructure. Belonging becomes a governing value. Community becomes something people build together.
∞
A national model emerges
What works in Puyallup travels to the next city. The beloved community spreads one hello at a time.
✦ The invitation is open ✦

Start with
Hello.

You don't need the perfect words.
You don't need a plan.
Just begin.
